Corporate accountability, climate change and . . . cattle?


Faithful readers know we tend to be fascinated with ripple effects here at Audit Trail – and this week’s news is full of global ripples on world markets stemming from the housing-hammered US economy.

Wendy over at Proxyland has some thoughts of her own this week on how macro issues can ripple into micro corporate concerns, and they’re worth checking out. She writes first (both at Proxyland and at a bit ago at Footnoted) about climate change and the effects that it may have on businesses throughout the U.S. – like the cattle farmers who are forecasting no growth in herd size due to recent droughts. She’s got an interesting snippet from Peter Gray, a DC lawyer who’s making the case that public companies should be identifying potential effects of global warming as part of their MD&A (Management Discussion and Analysis) – just as they routinely consider such uncertainties like the prospect of a terrorist attack or civil unrest in a country where they do business.
