Lord Browne will be pleased to know he has global popular opinion behind him. From Brazil to China and from Poland to the US, individuals share the BP chief executive's view, set out in the Financial Times this month, that they should have greater choice about working beyond traditional retirement.
A majority of people in 20 countries, covering 62 per cent of the world's population, say they want to continue working in some form in retirement, according to a survey published yesterday by HSBC, the international banking group.
