IFC Organizes Program On Corporate Governance In Bangladesh

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank (WB) Group, in association with the Bangladesh Bank (BB), the country's central bank, organized on Wednesday a program on corporate governance for bankers in Bangladesh.

Dr. Maxine L. Garvey, Senior Corporate Governance Officer of IFC made a presentation on "Good Corporate Governance is Good Business." Garvey says a firm with good governance can attract higher investment premiums, have cheaper access to debt, outperform its peers in the long run and gain better access to multilateral investors.

Inaugurating the program, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank Muhammad A (Rumee) Ali says corporate governance is an area of great importance for all financial institutions and discussion on this subject is both timely and appropriate for the banking sector in Bangladesh.
