Thrust on practising corporate governance in financial sectors


Speakers at a workshop on Corporate Governance in the city Wednesday stressed the need for practising and strengthening corporate governance (CG) in different financial sectors to increase both local and foreign investment for socio-economic development of the country.

Jointly organised by Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) the daylong workshop was held at BEI Conference room with its President Farooq Sobhan in the chair.

While presenting a paper as resource person Dr. YRK Reddy, an international expert of corporate governance, said investors' confidence can be improved through strengthening financial disclosure.

Reddy, who is also Chairman of Yaga Consulting and Founder Trustee of the Academy of Corporate Governance (ACG) in India, said 95 per cent companies in developing countries are not listed with the bourses although they have the potentials to be listed.
