Continuing professional development: Why learning goes on after the classroom


Training the next generation of accountants has always been at the heart of the accountancy bodies business. But as their involvement in the formulation of accounting rules and regulation has diminished, the educational side of a professional bodies work has become ever more important. In the UK, with six very different accounting bodies in operation, the enhancement of each qualification and its differentiation in the marketplace, has been to the fore in the accountancy bodies’ efforts.

None more so than the work at the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). And in recent years CIMA has been developing its lifelong learning systems, known through the profession as continuing professional development, CPD.
