Call for rural energy guarantee

More must be done to help Scottish communities benefit from energy efficiency measures, Communities Minister Stewart Maxwell has said.

He said energy companies and the UK Government must increase spending on such measures.

And he called for a "cast iron guarantee" that new energy investment would include Scotland's rural and island communities.

The UK Government is due to consult on new heat and energy saving targets.

Proposals include a 20% increase of the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (Cert) obligation on energy suppliers to significantly increase the number of households benefiting from energy saving measures.
