Australia's second-largest energy retailer Origin Energy Ltd has welcomed federal parliament passing the renewable energy target (RET) scheme legislation.
Origin head of policy and sustainability Carl McCamish said the legislation was a "great start" in having a cohesive policy for Australia to use less carbon in the future.
Mr McCamish said the target, along with the proposed Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS), would be an important factor in whether companies invest in the infrastructure needed to deliver lower carbon emissions.
