Corruption and illicit financial flows remain one of the greatest impediments to development in most African countries. Efforts to improve governance are persistently undermined by the problem. Nigeria is one of the most prominent cases that demonstrates the distorting and lingering consequences of corruption, with over $380bn stolen or wasted in the country's 50 years of independence.
Nuhu Ribadu was the first chair of Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, appointed to the position in 2003. With extensive experience in anti-corruption efforts, Mr Ribadu will discuss why the problem, of which people are so aware, continues in African countries. He will consider the best strategies to help reduce the scale corruption.
