Towards more sustainable forms of transport


The first International Think Tank Meeting on Globalization, organized by Nyenrode’s new Institute for International Business, was held at Nyenrode on 11 March 2009. Over thirty innovative entrepreneurs and thinkers from all over the world shared their thoughts on sustainable globalization. The subtheme of this year’s meeting was sustainable transport and mobility. Prof. Dr. Gerard Keijzers, senior lecturer in sustainability and director of the Nyenrode Center for Sustainability, talks about trends relating to sustainable forms of transport.

Relative scarcity
Due to a relative scarcity, the price of oil has risen sharply in recent years. This higher oil price is reflected in higher prices for diesel, petrol, natural gas and LPG, and has serious consequences for the transport of goods and passengers. Although the financial crisis has led, more recently, to a lower oil price, Prof. Dr. Gerard Keijzers expects that this drop will be short-lived.
