How does biodiversity loss affect me?


Biodiversity forms the pillar of our planet's life-support system.

If biodiversity is damaged, this support system starts to break down.


All human activities make use of ecosystem services. The continued provision of these services requires healthy ecosystems, and so healthy biodiversity.

Biodiversity loss can cause ecosystems to become stressed or degraded, and even eventually to collapse. This threatens the continued provision of ecosystem services, which in turn further threatens biodiversity and ecosystem health.
