Move to boost number of female executives


Ministers have teamed up with the private sector to devise a plan to boost the number of women in boardrooms

It is understood that aides to Patricia Hewitt, secretary of trade, have met with headhunters to discuss how to improve the situation, The Guardian has reported.

The developments come following last week's shake up at troubled retailer Marks & Spencer in which several female executives, including FD Alison Reed, lost their jobs.

Reed's departure leaves just three female FDs in the FTSE100.
