Structure of Committees

ConsensusBuilder's description of the Structure of Committees:

Introduction:
Technical and expert committees (not all committees are technical in nature) composed of dedicated individuals who are committed to an unbiased and independent view, are the backbone of the standardization process. The careful attention to ensuring all viewpoints are considered, an agreement reached that is incorporated in the final Standard (consensus), and that all members of the public have an opportunity to comment (transparency) has given Standards the high reputation they currently enjoy.

This guide describes, from an Australian perspective, the basic structure of committees and the processes by which committees are set up and maintained. By ensuring committees are fully representational of all affected stakeholders in the Australian and New Zealand communities, Standards retain their widespread acceptance and relevance.

The methods used for the formation and maintenance of Standards Australia and Standards New Zealand committees, both national and joint, closely follow the processes utilized by other major national Standards bodies.
