Canadian Co-operative Association: Seven Steps to Renewing the Board

This issue of Governance Matters explores perhaps the most surprising results of this research: the degree to which co-operatives get involved in their own board succession. Traditionally, the selection of board members in co-ops has been a decision left exclusively to members, consistent with co-operative principles. Yet our research found that many co-operatives and their boards get actively involved in the renewal of their boards, including identifying new candidates.
