Family succession woes

An advantage of the fight between the Ambani brothers in India (of the Reliance group) is that it is putting the issue of governance on the front pages.

It also show up the family nature of this issue and how succession within family companies continues to err when offspring are appointed to replace daddy.

An example often put forward as a successful example of son following father is Franck Riboud, now Chairman of the Danone Group (Sorry Franck, I know it was a long time ago, but the do keep using your case as an example). Although he has managed the business without undue publicity, do people really think that he was the right person for the job at the time, and that there was no-one better?

Watch out NewsCorp shareholders, your time is coming!
