The role of institutional investors in ensuring, influencing and, in some cases, imposing good corporate governance in the companies they invest in is primordial.
Asset managers and other investors, especially institutional investors have a responsibility and should be held to account.

A German reform commission yesterday sought to oblige asset managers to better serve their clients' interests by exposing them to the same corporate governance standards they demand of the companies they invest in.
BaFin, Germany's chief financial watchdog, said the new "corporate governance code for asset management companies" made an "important contribution to the transparency and integrity of Germany's reputation as a financial centre, strengthening its competitiveness in the process".
