Guidance coming on criticized U.S. accounting rule

An audit watchdog group promised new guidance on internal financial controls after absorbing a day of complaints about the requirements at a meeting hosted by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday.

Public Company Accounting Oversight Board Chairman William McDonough promised a report by May 16 to address requests that the time and expense of implementing the new rule be brought into line with its benefits.
