The UK National Health Service continues to appoint Non-Executive Directors for the Boards of its local NHS bodies. Each of these consists of around 5 executive directors (employees) and an equal number of non-executives.
The Non-Executive Directors are part-time and are required for 2.5 days per month for an annual payment of Pounds 5,673. Even if we assume that that is for 10 months of the year, that is a daily payment of Pounds 226.92.
The Chair of the Board is required for 3.5 days per week for an annual payment of Pounds 21.882. I we assume only 40 weeks a year of work, that is a daily payment of Pounds 156.30.
Pay peanuts and get.....
Government continues to take the lead in not compensating non-executives adequately, so as to ensure they have the time and the independence to play an effective role on their Boards. Assuming they are there for more than cosmetic purposes.
