China's city-based commercial banks, which are restructured urban credit co-operatives, still face many challenges although they have seen gradual improvements in their business performance.
This is the conclusion of a report released by the Financial Research Institute of the State Council Development Research Centre.
After restructuring, the number of the former loss-making urban credit co-operatives branches, especially in prosperous eastern regions, has slumped. This indicates they have closed some loss-making branches and attached more importance to striking a balance between costs and profits.
