As the initial year for compliance with of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) draws to a close, human resource departments are evaluating their efforts to meet the act's requirements for ensuring compliance with internal controls under the act's section 404. An April 25 audiocast by compensation and benefits consultants at KPMG examined lessons learned from the past year and HR's role in creating a culture of compliance.
"Everyone learned a lot during the first year of SOX compliance, but overall it was a difficult year," said Courtney Fahy, a senior manager in KPMG's Seattle office. "The good news is that the next year should be easier for most companies."
