This paper sheds light on the ambiguous relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and International Development. While CSR is regarded by many as a vehicle through which the private sector can contribute to poverty reduction and other social objectives, there is also great concern that CSR is insensitive to local priorities and potentially harming prospects for sustainable livelihoods in the South.
