Independent director assembly line starts operation

However, confusion remains on how many directors needed, which is fuelling new business opportunity

Help is at hand for India Inc, as it races to find enough independent directors to fill half its boards, to meet market regulator Sebi’s December 31 deadline.

In what is likely to be an increasing trend, Mumbai-based corporate consulting firms are offering to hawk databases of independent directors.

With only six months to D-Day, corporates may find themselves thumbing through the yellow pages, searching for listings that say: ‘Contact Us For Independent Directors’ followed by a telephone number and e-mail address.
