Requirements of 2002 oversight law keep companies, their auditors jumping

The fees that public companies pay to their auditors have skyrocketed since the Sarbanes-Oxley Act was implemented in 2002 to tighten financial controls and reduce the risk of corporate wrongdoing. The law has dramatically increased the number of hours worked by auditors and the fees that they charge.
