Australian companies fail sustainability disclosure: research


Australian companies are failing to consistently report the economic, social and environmental aspects of their business despite clear incentives to make such information public.

New research, conducted by the University of Sydney and commissioned by CPA Australia, looked at 24 listed firms that prepared separate sustainability reports and found their reporting standards were inconsistent.

Few were keen to prepare such reports, CPA Australia president Mark Coughlin said.

"Today's companies must consider and manage their real and varied risks - to only consider financial and market risks is both naive and myopic," Mr Coughlin said.
