CEOs find corporate governance rules burdensome but useful


Chief executives find complying with the corporate governance rules set under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act the most demanding governance task -- but in general think the rules have benefited their boards, a New York Stock Exchange survey said on Tuesday.

The NYSE's survey of its listed companies' CEOs said 80 percent of the 103 bosses asked cited spending more time on regulatory and compliance issues than five years ago.

Nearly 70 percent found that compliance with section 404 of Sarbanes Oxley was the most demanding governance task.
