While I have no quarrel with the fact that he is going, indeed he should have gone earlier. He also should have done a much better job in having potential successors ready and the imperial nature of his rule is questionable.
However, the full story is that Disney former head, Michael Eisner, created a significant amount of value for shareholders in the 20+ years he was involved at Disney.
He should be given the credit he is due, as well as the deserved criticism!

It should have been a day for a pat on the back, but instead last Wednesday brought Michael Eisner a kick in the rear to help him on his way out of the chief executive's suite at Walt Disney.
As the company reported a handy 41 per cent increase in its latest quarterly earnings, a judge spoiled the day by reminding the world of the qualities that were to lead to Mr Eisner's premature departure at the end of next month.
Because of his "Machiavellian" and "imperial" nature, Mr Eisner was "to a large extent responsible for the failings in process that infected and handicapped the board's decision-making abilities," wrote William B. Chandler III, chancellor of a Delaware business court.
