Murdoch son 'quit over family rift'


The independant Directors of this major listed company should hang their heads in shame seeing such a spectacle take place under their watch.

This family spat should not be interfering with the affairs of a major multinational and shows how far this company still has to go in getting their governance right.

A family rift over control of the $6bn (£3.4bn) family empire and frustration at his own role lay at the heart of Lachlan Murdoch's decision to quit the media group News Corporation, it emerged yesterday.

There had been relatively minor disagreements between Rupert Murdoch and his eldest son, which culminated in the 33-year-old Lachlan feeling he had been undermined by his father and stripped of full responsibility for News Corp's TV assets, according to people with knowledge of the situation.
