Rules can't prevent corporate misdeeds: minister of state
Good corporate governance goes beyond rules, and stricter rules will not prevent corporate misdeeds, Minister of State for Finance and Transport Lim Hwee Hua has said.
She says it is ultimately ethical values that hold the key.
Mrs Lim made the comment during a keynote address at the CPA Forum 2005.
The forum was organised by two accounting bodies - CPA Australia and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants - and is based on issues raised in a five-part TV series, The Agenda, shown on Channel NewsAsia recently.
Following recent high profile corporate scandals both in Singapore and abroad, there have been many calls for a tightening of rules.
