Talk on “What’s New in Corporate Governance in Asia” and launch of publication titled “From Conformance to Performance: Best Corporate Governance Practices for Asian Companies”
A talk titled “What’s New in Corporate Governance in Asia” by A/P Mak Yuen Teen and the launching of the publication titled “From Conformance to Performance: Best Corporate Governance Practices for Asian Companies” edited by Prof Mak was held on July 29, 2005 at The Executives’ Club, OCBC Centre.
The welcome address was given by McGraw-Hill Education (Asia) which was followed by a speech from the guest of honour, Mr. John Lim, President of the Singapore Institute of Directors. Mr. Surinder Kathpalia, Managing Director, Asia, Standard & Poor’s also gave a speech as the guest speaker following which, Prof Mak gave a talk on what’s new in corporate governance in Asia, where he spoke about the key changes in the revised corporate governance code and addressed the rationale underlying these changes as well as how companies should apply the major code provisions in spirit rather than in form. Prof Mak also shared with the audience the emerging best practices adopted by international companies.
