CBN harps on good corporate governance


The CBN has charged the leadership of financial institutions in the country to engage in new principles and practices that will promote good corporate governance.

CBN Deputy Governor, Financial Sector Surveillance, Tunde Lemo said, today in Abuja that promotion of good corporate governance was necessary to retain public confidence in the industry. Good corporate governance is a system of managing the affairs of corporations with a view to increasing shareholder value and meeting the expectations of other stakeholders.

Our correspondent reports that Lemo made the charge in a keynote address he presented at the 11th annual bankers conference. The conference with the theme, ‘The imperatives of corporate governance in a consolidated banking environment’ was organised by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).
