Corporate Governance Is a Matter of Perspective


Ernst & Young's latest corporate governance results reveal a striking disparity in overall impressions of and satisfaction with corporate governance strategies. In general, management -- including the senior executive team -- takes a more somber view than the board of their organization's progress in meeting mandates and deadlines. The board wants more of a hand in developing strategy, yet at the same time managers are skeptical of boards' ability to ensure good governance. Companies also need to do a better job of communicating the principles of good corporate governance to employees and reinforcing the importance of governance in day-to-day operations, the data suggests.
