Onus for good corporate governance on directors, says GECIS chief


Good corporate governance has become imperative in the light of new laws in the US and UK, with whom a lot of Indian companies do business, as well as India, said Pramod Bhasin, President and CEO, GECIS Global, today.

Participating in the CII Governance Series on What the Boards Would be Facing in the Coming Years: Challenges and Solutions, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here, Bhasin said it was getting increasingly difficult to impart because of the need for independent directors on company boards.

“Liability factors make it difficult to get good independent directors as they can face criminal charges for certain decisions,” he said, adding that the more independent the director, the less he or she is likely to understand the business of the company.
