Audit Committees in Corporate Governance


Corporate audit committees can play an important role in ensuring an effective system of accounting and internal controls and the reporting of financial information that is relevant, meaningful and useful to stakeholders.

Directors of an increasing number of companies in Zimbabwe, as is happening elsewhere, are appointing audit committees to oversee internal audit procedures and appoint and receive the reports of external auditors.

The unexpected collapse of large companies that brought the auditing profession under the glare of publicity locally and internationally has also focused attention on the role of corporate audit committees.
