Hermes appoints Calpers man as chief executive


Hermes, the fund manager with £58bn under management including the BT and Royal Mail pension schemes, has hired its new chief executive from Calpers, one of America's leading proponents of investor activism.

Mark Anson, the chief investment officer for the $194.6bn (£109.1bn) US fund manager, could increase the amount of money Hermes devotes to active management. About £2bn of its £58bn comes under its UK Focus Funds and other joint ventures where a more active approach with company management teams is taken.
