Leaders in the public sector - broadening the talent pool


Successive Governments have redrawn the frontiers of the state. Senior management appointments in the public sector have become increasingly challenging. Attempts by government departments and other areas of the public sector to streamline have led to ever greater focus on service delivery and output.

From management to leadership

What used to require good administration, soon began to require strong management and now demands high calibre leadership. The current useful debate on why public funds should be devoted to bringing in talent from outside a civil service that is itself downsizing, provides an opportunity to outline why this should make practical sense – and provide good value for taxpayers’ money.
