Govt steps up peer review mechanism


Government is stepping up efforts to include as many South Africans as possible in the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM). The process to review the country's performance in key governance areas is currently under way.

Today celebrities joined labour, business and civil society in endorsing the process. The APRM is an instrument voluntarily acceded to by member states of the African Union (AU) as a self-monitoring mechanism. The review process focuses on democracy and good governance, socio-economic development, economic and corporate governance.
