Samsung, Doosan cases underscore deep-rooted problems in management of family-owned conglomerates

This year has been marked by several corporate governance scandals involving the nation's major conglomerates which added to the public's anti-chaebol sentiment.

The chaebol or Korea's typical family-owned businesses have long been criticized for murky transactions between subsidiaries through cross-ownership and evasion of inheritance tax.
