
Is it really likely that italian lawyers are more efficient or even thta they work more hours such that the average profits per partner is €1.18 million versus €863,000 for Spanish lawyers and €853,000 for British lawyers? Not likely!
More likely they charge more because the Italian legal system is more complicated and all pervasive, or that they charge more for their assistants, which may be why they have more of them.
It looks like Italy continues to need to liberalize!.

Italian law firms are the most profitable in Europe with the average partner earning profits of more than €800,000 ($971,000) last year, according to a new cross-jurisdictional benchmarking report.
The survey of leading firms in eight countries found that the top practices across Europe had boosted their profitability by more than 20 per cent during 2005, with median profits per partner of €406,300, up from €337,900 in 2004.
