
Information Technology (IT) systems should work to strengthen corporate governance practices in the country, assisting the efforts of the regulator, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), its Executive Director, S C Das said on Saturday.
Making this observation in his inaugural address at a seminar on "Secure IT environment and Corporate Governance," organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here, he said SEBI was only an 'umpire,' with a secondary role to play, in facilitating corporate governance practices.
Companies should make voluntarily disclosures to shareholders, public and stock exchange. In a disclosure-based system, the role of IT was important as it could assist the monitoring process.
