Under the revised US Sentencing Commission's Federal Sentencing Guidelines for Organizations (effective 11/01/04), companies with an "effective compliance and ethics program" are expected to "promote an organizational culture that encourages ethical conduct and a commitment to compliance with the law." The guidelines also cite the need for companies to "evaluate periodically the effectiveness of their organization's compliance and ethics program."
