The Impact of Sarbanes-Oxley on private companies


Our 2006 Private/Nonprofit Company survey is now closed. Results will be unveiled at our National Directors Institute March 9, 2006 in Chicago.

Since the signing of Sarbanes-Oxley in 2002, Foley has followed the impact its reforms have had on corporate America. Over the years, these studies have been cited by academia and government and business leaders around the world, as well as in more than 500 media placements.

In 2003, Foley’s groundbreaking study on the cost of being a public company shed light on the impact corporate governance had on public companies in the first year of Sarbanes-Oxley. The following year, in addition to conducting the public company study, Foley invited private organizations, including nonprofit entities, to join in the discussion of corporate governance costs. The resulting study demonstrated how Sarbanes-Oxley has affected these organizations.
