King to tackle UN governance


Judge Mervyn King, who chaired the King committee on corporate governance in SA, has been elected chairman of a high-level steering panel to evaluate governance at the United Nations (UN).

The appointment has reinforced SA’s standing on issues of corporate governance within the member states of the UN.

The move to improve UN governance comes after the scandal over the UN’s oil-for-food programme with Iraq, which damaged the international body’s reputation.
