Warlord Taylor 'vanishes'

Charles Taylor should have trusted Saudi Arabia or France for asylum, with the first he could have become muslim and joined Idi Amin there with no likelihood that he will face the justice he deserves. Alternatively he could have chosen the cote d´azure in the south of France and joined the likes of Baby Doc Duvalier, ex dictator of Haiti, for the safe good life. Neither of these cretins are likely to face the justice they deserve for apparent raisons d´etat.

He chose Nigeria who changed their minds (for justice or realpolitik?) and he has vanished. Who knows, he may resurface in one of the locations mentioned. Safe haven but not justice!

Sierra Leoneans who bore the brunt of atrocities allegedly committed by Liberian warlord Charles Taylor reacted with horror to his disappearance from exile in Nigeria, before he could face justice.
"This is outrageous and unacceptable and there must be more than meets the eye. How could Nigeria allow a war criminal to escape justice?" said Samuel Fortune of rights organisation Justice for All.

Joseph Samura of Amnesty Now said the news was "hard to believe".

"Nigeria has so much to explain about this. Should it allow Charles Taylor to go free for all his crimes? This should not be allowed to happen," said Mr Samura.
