Balance from many perspectives
GOVERNANCE, as is the case of the broader challenge of development, begins and ends with individual persons.
The values – as well as the ideals and ideas – of individual citizens serve as the foundations upon which to further build our nation and make it cohere more as one national community, which we genuinely and truly love.
It is the welfare of individual citizens, of each and every Filipino, that should be the capstone of all our efforts at nation-building and at deepening a sense of national community. At the end of it all, good governance should make every Filipino prosperous – in every sense of development that is comprehensive and genuine – and proud of the Philippines.
As we move on the road of good governance and responsible citizenship from beginning to end, we find it important that we consider many other perspectives. Taking them into account and addressing the issues they bring out are critical to ensuring that we are able to establish a connecting thread, indeed a vital link, between our beginning fundamental values and the over-all welfare we should end up with for every Filipino.
