CEOs trusted less than ever before, Edelman PR expert tells MEPRA

People don’t trust CEOs any more - or at least, not as much as they used to, according to Mike Seymour, international director of crisis and issues management at Edelman, the world’s largest independent public relations firm. Edelman is the international partner of ASDA’A, the Middle East regions’ premier public relations consultancy.

Seymour, who addressed members of the Middle East Public Relations Association (MEPRA) at the American University of Dubai, said the gradual eroding of trust is partly the fallout from the increasingly numerous corporate and government scandals and crises ranging from Arthur Andersen and Enron to SARS.

We also trust traditional figures of authority – including doctors and academics – less, and “people like ourselves” more than ever before, according to the 2006 Edelman Trust Barometer, a new study of more than 2,000 opinion leaders around the world.
