Corporate governance expert to facilitate workshop for Caricom social security officials


'Emerging markets' leading corporate governance practitioner and scholar, Vindel Kerr, will be the lead facilitator at a Regional Conference on Corporate Governance for government ministers, Directors and CEOs of Social Security Organisations of Caricom. The Conference will be held in Dominica from April 12-14, 2006 and will be hosted by Dominica Social Security. This training conference comes against the background of the growing importance being given to probity, transparency and accountability of public sector institutions generally and social security organisations specifically. In addition, company laws and other frameworks of good governance are demanding that Directors of corporate boards possess requisite knowledge, skills and qualifications and be of sound integrity.

Themes to be covered include: Overview and Principles of Corporate Governance; role of CEO, Board and Ministers; case studies of good and bad corporate governance; ministerial involvement in governance of social security; director independence; scope powers and limitations of Minister, Board and Director; and best practices in governance of social security organisations.
