
Company directors are becoming increasingly nervous of accepting additional board positions because of the risk involved, according to Korn/Ferry International.
The executive recruitment group surveyed more than 1,200 directors from 15 countries for its annual study, published today, and found that directors turn down board positions due to the possible risks and problems they might encounter.
The percentage of UK directors who turned down a board seat rose to 61pc last year from 51pc in 2004.
Sir Ian Gibson, senior independent director at GKN, said in an interview as part of the report: "There is the perception among potential candidates that there is personal risk in taking on such a post."
