Race is on to sign UK's most revered executive
"Once again, for the sixth time, John Browne, Lord Browne of Madingley, has been voted by his corporate peers as the most impressive business person in Britain," trumpeted Mori's annual survey of Britain's top 130 business executives in January.
With the oil price riding high and BP making record profits, the chief executive of the world's second biggest oil and gas company would appear unassailable.
Apart from one indisputable fact - time is running out for the man dubbed "the Sun King of the oil industry". For he is 58 and must retire in two years' time under the company's articles of association.
