Effective Corporate E-Mail Compliance
While e-mail has become the single most important communication tool for any organization, it also has become a massive threat to efforts to comply with government privacy regulations and corporate information security policies. This white paper discusses the threats to compliance posed by outgoing e-mail, and explains how organizations can build and enforce an effective corporate policy around outgoing e-mail content by providing protection at the e-mail gateway.
The mail servers at virtually every company likely contain complete records, or at the very least, traces, of almost everything important to the company. Non-public information (NPI), which may be subject to governmental regulations like HIPAA, confidential company information such as product specifications or revenue information, and content pertaining to financial reporting that is subject to Sarbanes-Oxley or GLBA all live on digitally, long after the original conversation has ended.
