Time: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Venue: Sentosa Golf Club, Singapore

The Corporate Governance and Financial Reporting Centre (CGFRC), in collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Directors (SID), hosted a roundtable discussion led by Mr. David Daniel, US-based CEO of Spencer Stuart, on 21 July 2006 at the Sentosa Golf Club.

A/P Mak Yuen Teen, Director of CGFRC, chaired the discussion. To ensure a lively discussion, the round table was restricted to around 40 company directors, senior executives, practitioners and company secretaries. Issues discussed included identification of potential directors; what makes a good director; how boards can better assess the kind of director they need; the potential contributions and limitations of director appraisals in contributing to board succession planning; and the role of training in improving director effectiveness. The participants were very active in contributing their views on the topics discussed. Overall, the event proved to be very informative and thought-provoking.
