SEC Asks PCAOB to Delay Alert on Timing of Options
The Securities and Exchange Commission has asked the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) to delay issuing guidance related to backdating stock options, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday citing people familiar with the matter.
The PCAOB had planned to issue an alert to accounting firms that would have advised auditors about options-grant issues they should examine in audits, the paper reported citing people familiar with the matter. The board also wanted to tell auditors that they should examine past auditing practices related to options grants if there was an indication of problems with them, the paper reported.
But the SEC asked the board to hold off issuing the guidance until the commission completes its own work on a proposed rule to revamp disclosure of executive pay, the people familiar with the matter said.
